A Goodlie Companye has been performing madrigal and madrigal-style music in the central Massachusetts area since 1992. We sing at assisted living and retirement homes, but also perform at benefits and for broader community groups. We perform “old” pieces, where the music or words, and usually both, are from before 1700.
Much of our music is a cappella, but we occasionally use small instruments for variety and fun--once in a while, we even do an instrumental piece. We wear period costumes, tell stories, talk to our audiences about the history behind the music we perform, and visit with our audiences after our performances.
We rehearse almost every Thursday evening year-round, performing 10-12 times per year, usually on Saturday afternoons. Selecting and directing our music is shared by the group, and many of the pieces we perform have been arranged by us. There are currently eight members, but there is room for a few more special voices.
